Darren and Joey Win Quick Victories at Young Guns! 2/1/2008
Strikeforce Young Guns showcases all the up and coming talent in the bay area's mma scene. Fight and Fitness brought many fans to the show to support our fighters.
First up was Evan Esguerra in the 145 weight class. Evan fought local talent, Alvin Cacdac from NorCal Fight Factory. In the first round, Cacdac immediately shot in and took Evan down. Evan scrambled and got back to his feet. This continued throughout the round with Evan fighting on the defensive. At one point, Evan almost had a guillotine but was unsuccessful. In the second round, both fighters came out swinging. Evan connected with a very hard left hook that sent Cacdac to the floor. Cacdac scrambled and grabbed Evan's leg which took him down. Cacdac spun to his back and sank in a rear naked choke. Evan, upset with his first loss, is eager to fight again as soon as possible.
Darren was up next against Cung Le fighter, Andrew Vallderez. This fight was extremely short (I love to write about these ones.) The bell rang. Darren skipped across the ring with his hands up. Darren took down Vallderez with a single leg takedown. Vallderez scrambled back to his feet and Darren slammed him to the ground. Darren took his back and sank in the rear naked choke. 59 seconds-Done.
Joey Armstrong (Ralph Gracie,) was the main event. Joey was fighting a Cung Le fighter as well--Sam Spengler. Spengler immediately took Joey down with a double leg takedown. From his back, Joey shot a triangle choke and almost finished him but Spengler managed to escape. Spengler tried to initiate some ground and pound but Joey defended well. The ref stood them up and the two fighters began to swing. Spengler got pummeled with an effective right hand and backed up. As Spengler backed up, he through a right kick which Joey caught. Joey connected with a right hand which sent Spengler to the mat. From here, Joey pounded him out until the ref called the fight.
Congratulations to all of the fighters for such a great show. As always, thanks to all the fans who made it out to support them.
p.s. don't forget to vote on Tuesday!!!!!!!!!!!
