StrikeForce 7 Results: Evan, Luke, and Crispim Impress!! Nov. 16, 2007
So, for those of you who don’t know, the FnF writer (me) just had a baby so I haven’t been able to make it to the recent events. Therefore, I need to suddenly rely on the accounts of other sources to get the latest fight results and details. Please excuse FnF if you disagree with these accounts. From what I have heard, these accounts are pretty accurate. The following comes from http://fight.bodoglife.net in regards to Evan and Crispim’s fights:
CHRIS DRUMM VS. EVAN ESGUERRA - 145 lbs
Evan Esguerra VS Chris Drumm started with come exciting reversals. Esguerra, who had some noisy chicks in the audience (I was waiting for the tops to come off), landed a good guillotine on the ground that reversed very quickly. Eventually, they got up and clinched against the cage for a while and traded knees and weak strikes. The three minute round (god knows why it was 3 minutes) ended fairly even by my account, though Drumm looked tired.
Round 2 started with a misfire - they couldn’t get the cage closed for some reason. Eventually they started again, with Drumm shooting in and getting stuck in a failed guillotine. He reversed it anyway and fought hard for a choke on Evan from the back. Again, Drumm seemed weak and Esguarra easily turned over to achieve some reasonable ground and pound. There was some weird rolling and the two finally got up again. Drumm, looking totally gassed, fell and accepted several strikes - but Esguerra (accidentally?) struck Drumm in the back of the head, prompting a foul break and some very nasty booing from the crowd. Drumm was almost done, so he used the break to reestablish his discipline. The crowd was really pissed off.
During the break, Esguerra paced the cage like a hungry lion, looking distinctly impassioned. Finally, the ref called the fight… resulting in a crowd-rankling technical draw. The audience was booing and yelling “get some balls!” and “you suck!” repeating what I was saying in my head - Drumm pussied out. BOOOOOOO!
CLINT CORONEL VS. ALEX CRISPIN - 155 lbs
This one I was looking forward to. During the weigh-ins, Crispin was giving Coronel the evil eye, definitely trying to get a rise out of his opponent. Colonel seemed cool as a cucumber though.
With the fight about to start, the eyeballing continued and Coronel finally seemed a little amped up, leaping around the ring like a rabid monkey. They started off with cautious strikes, Coronel almost catching a few kicks with his hands. Crispin definitely seemed interested in landing kicks while Coronel waited carefully for a good in. The audience, somewhat bored at the 2 min mark, started booing which bolstered the two fighters. Fists got harder, but Coronel finally brought things to gher gorund with Crispin on top. The two struggled there for a while, Crispin managing to get some hits in on the body and face, but Coronel was defending very well. Coronel landed one crowd-pleasing up-kick to Crispin’s chin.
Crispin almost sunk a choke on the ground but Coronel slipped out of it, and so the round ended.
Round 2 started with more cautious strikes, but an awkward trade resulted in the two pinned against the cage. Crispin hit the ground with Cornoel on top, the two looking pretty exhausted. They spent a good 2 minutes down there, alternately struggling for control and resting. Crispin finally got half-mount and held onto it almost for the remainder of the round. Finally, Crispin got them up and landed few awkward knees - then the round zeroed out.
Round 3 saw Crispin looking smart and fast; Coronel, the opposite. They traded strikes, Crispin definitely playing the predator, but despite the gassed Coronel he decided to play smooth, landing a few punches here and there. It became clear both fighters wanted to keep this thing standing but energy levels were a little too low to entice the crowd. Coronel aimed a thunderous knee well and Crispin dodged it equally well, resulting in the two hitting the ground for a meat nap. The round ended seemingly before it began, both fighters standing but Crispin still retaining his balance. The match ended with a unanimous decision in Crispin’s favor.
The result from Luke’s fight comes from Sherdog.com:
Bryson Kamaka vs. Luke Stewart
Round 1
Kamaka rushes forward with punches and is dropped with a knee to the chin. Stewart crushes Kamaka with an illegal knee to the head on the ground as referee Cecil Peoples rushed in to stop the contest just 19 seconds into the bout.
Garcia stated that the result stands because Peoples had called the fight before the illegal knee landed.
So, sorry again for the borrowed accounts…. Thanks to all the FnF fans who were there cheering our guys on!
