Chris Wins ISCF World Title by KO at Rumble in Richmond! 10-24-2009
This past weekend promoter Tim Stell and Paco hosted Hybrid Combat Action at Rumble in Richmond: packed with Boxing, Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts bouts.
In the Main event, Fight and Fitness's Own Chris Cariaso faced off Against Former PFC and Cage Combat Bantamweight Champion Rolando Velasco (Oakdale MMA) for The Vacant ICSF World Bantamweight Crown. From opening seconds of the bout Chris established the tempo of the fight, asserting his presence with unanswered left kicks , solid takedown defense and precise lateral movement. This left Rolando difficulty in stopping the momentum of his elusive opponent. At the end of the first Chris delivered a cross that sent the PFC Veteran to the canvas scrambling to defend Chris's submission attempts. The end came in the middle of round two when Chris fired a frenzy of knees and punches, finishing with a solid left hook that prompted referee Bam Bam Stell to stop the contest.
In Featherweight MMA Action, Evan Esguerra defeated Gladiator Challenge Veteran Justin Smitley (Oakdale MMA) for the Vacant ICSF US Title. Evan carefully stalked his opponent landing accurate strikes. In contrast, Justin came forward with flying knees. Evan would take the fight to the ground with overhead slams and takedowns in every round, from there he attacked with elbows and punches inside Justin’s guard (opening a visible cut on Justin’s forehead early in the fight), and Justin countered with nonstop submission attempts. Early in the fourth round Evan would earn his victory with a belly to belly slam from which Justin could not continue.
Earlier in the evening Julie Jackal faced Undefeated WCSC World Champion Amber Pope (Art of War) in Muay Thai for the Vacant IKF World Female Featherweight Title. Julie showed tremendous determination as she refused to yield forward pressure even as the end came via TKO in the second round.
Thank you to the tremendous amount of fans and supporters. Thank you to Oakdale MMA, Art of War, The Stell Brothers and Paco Promotions for the opportunity. Chris' first title defense is slated for March of 2010 at the next Rumble in Richmond.
